Summer 2011 Trends

I'm back, my Fashionistas! Ever since second semester of college started, I haven't been able to update. But now it's summer and I'm ready to come back. I'm thinking of creating a Tumblr for TFF because a lot of us are in dire need of fashion inspiration and I think Tumblr is a great way to get a lot of it. Now that I've announced that, (I hope you guys are looking forward to it....it will be absolutely epic I promise) I want to move on to a more urgent issue: Summer 2011 trends.

Loungerie
Nope--not a typo. Lingerie meets loungewear. Not kidding. I might have been the only one, but I've been waiting for this to be an acceptable thing. Don't go overboard, but what I'm seeing is a lot of light-lingerie dresses (under a blazer might be the most tasteful way of wearing it) and stockings with garters on the top under mid-thigh (or lower) shorts.



Rebellion Pieces
We all want to follow the adage, "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different", don't we? Enter rebellious prints. Bold colors, loud prints, geometric shapes. Legggo.






 


Indie Style
Even though Indie is part of the rebellious patterns topic, I wanted to give it a seperate shoutout because I LOVE THIS TREND! Maxi dresses, clogs, cool headbands, natural makeup. This style has more to do with accessories. I'll highlight one of the best trends: Karma Bracelets. Let some good energy into your life and live a little more freely.

Earth Tones & Scarves

Fall may be over, but fall colors are not... Every new season of the fashion year, we hear about different bursts of color, and although each season has its "IT" color palate, it's always nice to revert to earth tones...they are always fab, always in. Today, I put on this outfit (with black skinny jeans and black & gold Tory flats) and remembered that these are the tones that keep us grounded on days we want to be calm and still have the element of chic in our outfits.

Scarves are sometimes that extra 'something' that an outfit needs in order to stand out and be totally chic. Enough said.

So what do you guys think of the outfits? Lauren Conrad's light brown sweater with jeans is my favorite 'brown' look, and her gray cozy scarf is my fave 'scarf' look (even though I'm kind of in love with Nicole Richie's red scarf on the left with the tunic).

Airport Chic

Hey fashionistas!

I'm blogging to you from DC today, in the fabulous area of Georgetown. Some of the best shopping is here on M street! Amazing (but expensive) boutiques, chic restaurants, and the most beautiful apartments nearby. I got the cutest Tory Burch rainboots today in a fabulous store called Cusp!

So while we're on the subject of traveling, I thought I'd do a post on being "Airport Chic."

I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE traveling. It's so exciting to get up early, go to the airport in a car, and look casual & fabulous. It's almost as exciting as the destination. You get to wear a cute hobo bag! There are so many ways to be casual yet sexy: velour sweatsuits, sun dresses & sandals, jeans & tee shirts with a cute jacket, or jean shorts & flowy shirts. Of course, sunglasses are almost always necessary (or so we like to believe). Vanessa Hudgens, Audrina Patridge, & Ashley Greene have these looks down pat.

New Year, New "It" Girls

It's a new year, fashionistas! I love New Years outfits, parties, and positive attitudes. New beginnings, new diets, new trends, and new style icons. There are some fabulous ladies that are already taking center stage this year. Selena Gomez always has great shoes (she loves Ruthie Davis), and this year she has a new album and more movie roles...not to mention she's dating Justin Bieber. Mila Kunis is beginning her year of fame with Black Swan...she's off to a great start and she rocks Herve Leger on the reg. She has great, laid-back outfits. The last "It" girl is Leighton Meester. She's been very stylish on Gossip Girl and now she has a bunch of new movies coming out...which means more great outfits at premieres!

Looking Fab in Fur for Winter

It may be cold here in the city, but that doesn't mean any fashionista has to sacrifice style! Doesn't matter what you're doing or where you go, you can always wear fur. The Olsen twins wear fur on the red carpet as well as on the streets--as does Sienna Miller while walking her dog. These blonde ladies are wearing full-on fur, while Olivia Palermo and Rachel Zoe sport fur only closer to the face...very flattering.

My name is Kayla and I'm a student living in New York City...I love fashion and everything about it. My favorite outfits normally consist of oversized shirts or sweaters, boots, and leggings. I have a sick obsession with purses...it's a problem. Watching Sex & the City can fix any mood, technology is as good as any accessory, and black is always in. I have style icons that I die over, including Olivia Palermo, Cheryl Cole, Kim Kardashian (she has great style even though most people overlook her as a fashionista), Rachel Zoe, and Kyle Richards. These women all have business sense and great style!
